Alphajax Vs. Spell It! A Battle of the Scrabble Clones
February 17, 2011 No CommentsAlphajax and Spell It are both Scrabble clones. They both are played using the same exact rules. We all know about my adoration of word games. So naturally when two scrabble-esque games came out for WP7 I had to get them both and figure out which one reigned supreme.
Both games let you have multiple games going at once. A big plus since people often take hours between turns. Both allow for chat and for you to play with a friend or to be randomly placed in a game.
Similarities are aplenty, however it's the differences that make us choose one over the other. Though both game boards are quite similar, housing a 15×15 grid just like the original Scrabble their formatting is definitely different. If I had to pick the format of one to most resemble the official Scrabble it would be the Spell It gameboard which I would also choose as the most aesthetically pleasing. Both games keep track of your stats. Alphajax however is more thorough in the stats. They provide you with any information you may want to know about past games including your best score, your best move etc. Your win ratio is another stat recorded by Alphajax and that is also used to determine placement in the leaderboards.
Overall both games are played the same and I did enjoy both but there are lots of little things that would make me choose to play Alphajax over Spell It. We do need to note that Alphajax has been in the Marketplace longer than Spell It so it has had more time to develop into the game it is. I hope to see updates for both games in the future, until then I think Alphajax is my chosen go to game.
