Why is Everybody so Mad at Nokia?February 12, 2011 No Comments
Like I have said before, I was a big fan of this partnership before and after it actually happened. I really believe it is a good move for both Microsoft and Nokia. I think it is really obvious why it’s a good thing for Microsoft, So what about Nokia? Well, Nokia has been on a decline for awhile. Yes they are still the leader worldwide but not by much.
I also believe that they are still on top (for now) because of how far their reach is around the world and also because of their cult-like following. Thing is that the competition has been fierce lately. Apple with their ‘magical’ iPhone and Google with their Android OS that will even run on rocks. Nokia was not moving fast enough in the software side of things so they did the best next thing… partnered with Microsoft.
I completely understand the workers for getting upset and walking off on the job yesterday. They have worked long and hard on Symbian and MeeGo. But on the consumer end of things – I really do not understand what the big deal is. Nokia’s content and application store will be integrated with Microsoft Marketplace. They are rolling out about 400 apps a week on Windows Phone 7. Throw in Xbox, Zune and Office – it will be a definite upgrade for Nokia. Which is known and respected for how awesome their hardware is. For those MeeGo fans…
"Under the new strategy, MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating system project," the statement read. "MeeGo will place increased emphasis on longer-term market exploration of next-generation devices, platforms and user experiences. Nokia still plans to ship a MeeGo-related product later this year."
I am very excited to see what kind of phones will come out from Nokia. Especially now since they do not have to worry too much on software and can just focus on the hardware end of things. Maybe we will see tablets also, which would be very exciting news. All I know is that if it ends up looking anything like this… I am all in.
